Wednesday-July 12-Day 22- Lovely Anchorage, Lovely Drive

We stayed at the very nice Gold Nugget RV Park in Anchorage last night which had clean modern bathrooms/showers  (believe me, they are not all like that!😉) and a large laundromat. So before we pulled out this morning we did laundry!  Yea! for clean clothes!

We went to the Visitors Information Center, right downtown, 

and signed up for an hour long trolley tour of the city.

The whole area was brilliant with beautiful flowers!

While we waited for our noon time tour we picked up lunch.
 Barb and Marie had reindeer sausage sandwiches.
Steve and I had teriyaki caribou sticks. 

Anchorage is known as the City of Hanging Baskets.
They had LOTS of them!  Gorgeous! There are two full-time employees traveling around all day watering the baskets.

Blue and Gold are either the state colors or the city's colors (I wish I could remember all the details!😟). There are a lot of baskets like this, with  yellow marigolds and blue lobelia.

I thought this shop's name was cute.

There were some interesting murals painted on the sides of buildings.

After the trolley tour we headed south out of town, toward Seward. 
Again, the views were spectacular!

The tide was out at Turnagain Arm. It is called "Turnagain Arm" because Captain Cook who first discovered this area wrote in his journal that he had to turn again!
Turnagain Arm is part of the much larger Cook Inlet.

The road and the railroad tracks are close buddies
along Turnagain Arm.

Dead trees from the 1964 earthquake when the land dropped and was  flooded with salt water.

We found a  spot at this campground.

You know the saying "You win some, and you lose some".....well, this was a "lose some".....the place was so junky! Outside and inside the office/bathhouse, there was so much stuff everywhere....most of it junk, to our judgement.

But in our motor home, our home away from home,
we found rest and a good nights sleep.
