Monday-July 3-Day 13- Beauty, Bison and Bears

 We awoke to the sounds of gentle raindrops on our roof, and had a slower start to the day. When we left Toad River Campground, we were again greeted with a bounty of beauty around every curve and over every mountain top!  The weather was cloudy and rainy most of the day so our pictures are not as vibrant as when the sun is kissing the earth. But the wet weather  did not dampen our day!

The highway follows the beautiful turquoise colored Toad River,
 surrounded by the massive mountain peaks of the Canadian Rockies.

For 8 miles we wound our way around beautiful Muncho Lake.
There were no guardrails and we were warned to watch out for falling rock and wildlife!

Muncho means " big lake" and it is one of the biggest natural lakes in the Canadian Rockies.
 The mountains surrounding the lake are 7000 feet high.

Wild lupines beautified the roadways as they blew gracefully in the wind.

It seemed like we were driving across the top of the mountain
 when this mounded mountain came into view. 

The different greens of the  trees add variety to the wilderness..
 Here the  tall slender forest green pines mingle with the sage green aspen trees.

Here is the Trout River. Notice how it flows northward!

Several places we saw signs along the road  to warn us to watch for  bison on the road. Here was a whole herd resting right along the road.  There were at least 30 of them! They did not seem to mind our presence, and just ignored us!

Above: some mommas and their babies. And this big fellow came right close to our cab, grazing along the road, and then crossed to the other side in front of us!

And as we were driving we saws signs to this place, which advertised "good bison burgers".

So we changed our lunch plans  and tried these

 delicious bison burgers!

   They were very lean, very tasty and almost tasted like hamburger.

 We saw 4 bears today and this one  was the closest! 

We stopped at this lookout for a great view of the Liard River. It was starting to rain, so after a stretch in praise to God, Marie hustled back to the warmth and dryness of the cab!

Watson Lake: Our travel goal for today

It was raining but we didn't want to miss a stroll around 

Sign Post Forest!

We didn't spend a lot of time, but we did find this Ephrata, PA sign!

We spent the night parked in a little campground behind the back of a gas station/grocery store in Watson Lake.  It wasn't too bad, even hd a bunch of trees! We warmed up with hot tomato soup and toasted cheese sandwiches for supper. And now  it is still raining!

 It has already lulled the rest to sleep, and now it is my turn!
