Thursday-July 12-Day 22- Seward to Homer

This morning we hit the road at 8 AM, with anticipation of getting breakfast 7 miles south in Seward.  Alaska has a lot of Espresso drive-ins. This was was shaped like a cup!  

But we by passed it because breakfast was just down the road
at the Gold Rush Cafe.

Seward is a beautiful little coastal town. After breakfast we took a look around  town and then headed north the way we had come, the only way out! We decided to stop off at Exit Glacier, which was 8 miles off the beaten path, on a side road. This was our first view of the glacier. 

There was educational info about glaciers at this Nature Center.
I saw there were paths to hike back to the glacier, which I knew we could not do.  But then I realized that one of the trails was wheel chair accessible.
This was a rare privilege to be able to go for a hike!

This bridge was a good stopping point for pictures.

Barb and Marie went down to the glacial river to stick in their toes. It was cold!

The Exit Glacier is part of the Harding Ice Field.  It is named Exit because it was the only way out when hiking the glacial field.

Along the road in, and along the path, were dates of where the glacier was at that point in time. This is the spot where the glacier was when I was one year old!

We see this sign a lot! So many scenic byways!

and so many beautiful roadside flowers!

There are so very many flowers like this!
They look like over-grown Queen Anne's Lace.
 Steve looked them up online and they are called
 Poisonous Hemlock. They are  very toxic to animals and humans.
 Not good!  But pretty, none-the-less!

We left Exit Glacier and headed toward another coastal town of Homer. About 1/2 hour into the trip, one of us (I won't mention names 😊) couldn't find her phone. We called it, searched the motor home, and it was no where to be found! Then she said she thinks she took it in to the bathroom.....and maybe did not bring it out.  Then another one of us remembered (light-bulb moment!) that while we were in the Nature Center at Exit Glacier waiting to leave for our hike, a lady came up to the desk and handed in a phone, saying she found it in the womans bathroom. We didn't have coverage at that point to call, so we just turned the rig around and headed back to pick it up.  Sure enough, it was the lost phone!
The blessing of driving back was  that we saw a wolf running down the road!! Neat sighting!
(But he was too fast for the camera!)

We found Johnson Lake State Park, near Soldotna, and got the very last site!  It was a beautiful park, with lots of space between sites, and lots of pine trees. We ate outside, but it was very hot.....

So we created our own sun shade.....

After a supper of roasted hot dogs and salad, we made s'mores for dessert. Now this is what I call camping!! Love it!

No, Steve, you cannot eat the whole chocolate bar!

A rare treat!

Because we had no coverage, no one was on their phones, or blogging, so we played 2 games of Rook.

Around 9:30 we decided to go swimming in the lake.  When we got there, there were some people fishing,(you can see the line here) so we just went wading instead.  The lake water was surprisingly warm.....not what we expected.

The sun was starting to drop from the sky when we left the lake around 10:15. It was the end of another good day!
