As we drove out the long driveway of the Cove Motel this morning, the air was crisp and the waters were calm, creating beautiful reflections in the pond.

Marie and Barb wanted an early morning walk
so Margie and I picked them up on our way out the drive.

We drove to Antigonish to a restaurant we found in the AAA book, Main Street Cafe.
Sounded like a nice down-home place!
We found it to be a  very nice place to eat, in a very nice hotel, Maritimes Inn,
with a very nice price!  But the food was very nice too!
From there we arrived at Caribou, where we took the  70 minute  ferry ride  across the Northumberland Strait to Prince Edward Island.
It was sunny and warm!
And a delightful  day to hang out  on the deck and absorb some extra Vitamin D !

We label this picture the welcoming party!
The dock was lined with comoraunts!
When we arrived on PEI, we drove a part of the East coastal drive on  our way  toward our Quality Inn in Coleman, just west of Charlottestown, about the middle of the island. A mile before we arrived there, we came to COWS.  This is a dairy company that processes and sells dairy products.
They also make and market a lot of T-shirts with different Cow pics and sayings on them.
We had read about a free tour there, so decided to stop in right away,
since it was a bit early for check-in anyway.
Well, not really, but it's a good advertisement anyway!

It was a self-guided tour, and rather short. First we saw a film on the history of the COWS company.   Then we saw them working through the glass windows.  They were cleaning up after making a batch of ice cream.

We also saw how the tee shirts were screen pressed.  They make thousands of COWS tees! And they had many designs over the years displayed in pictures and posters on the walls. I like the one with Anne's red pig tails and straw hat  the best!

We then checked in to our hotel where we will be staying the next 3 nights while we are on PEI.

We had seen on facebook yesterday that some friends of ours from Middlebury, Indiana, were also spending the week here on Prince Edward Island!  What a coincidence! Or I guess I will rather explain it that God offers us some pleasant surprises along the way! So I sent a text, then made a phone call, and we decided to meet for dinner tonight at the quaint southern coastal town of Victoria!
Before dinner we drove through the colorful little town!

The houses were all painted in bright colors, just like so many other seaside towns!

Just another beautiful little white church..........and the pristine Victoria Lighthouse.

We met Robert and Lily Reigsecker for a 6 PM dinner reservation at Beachcombers on the Wharf.
John and I met Robert and Lily when they joined the staff at Poplar Hill Development School in Northwestern Ontario in 1980. We were both young couples at the time, with young children. There has been a lot of water over the dam since those memorable days! Our friendship was again renewed when Robert became one of our congregational overseers at New Covenant Mennonite Fellowship.
It was such a blessing to spend these few hours together over our evening dinner!
For the past week, we ladies have been longing for and talking about a lobster dinner.
Some places the price of a lobster dinner actually might have almost "broken the bank",
 at least "our" bank.!
This evening as we were ordering, we found out the lobster dinners here were about $15 less than most, so we decided this would be the night!
Our server said she had only 3 left!  Barb did not care to order a lobster meal, and Robert and Lily had lobster last evening.  So we ordered the last 3 lobsters and our server quick ran back to the kitchen before she even finished our orders, to let them know not to take any more orders for lobster!
We began our meal  with seafood chowder and rolls. Delicious starter!
And then.....(drum roll please!) a huge lobster dinner in front of our faces!
What an experience!
The kitchen staff had sliced through the shell of the tail and the claws,
making  the delicious meat a bit more accessible!
Cole slaw and a dish of melted butter for dipping completed the plate.
Did you know that 100 years ago, and even more recently, lobster was a poor man food?  The lobsters would wash up on shore, and the poor people would gather them to eat.
The prisoners received lobster to eat three times a day!
And poor children who took lobster in their school lunch would often not allow any other students seeing them eat it! They would go behind the school building to eat it,
or let it in their lunchbox until they were alone as they walked home from school.
It was so very embarrassing to have to eat lobster!
Later, as I stood in line to wait for coffee, I got to talking to some of the locals.  A man in the line said his wife was that way just 40 years ago as a school girl.
She took lobster in her lunch and was so embarrassed about it.
How the lowly lobster has climbed the ladder to royal recognition !
I love this sign that was on the wall!
After dinner, As we drove away from  this charming village of Victoria,
we got behind a slow moving vehicle!  A farmer transporting hay bales!
Back at Quality Inn our beds beckoned us!
It had been a great day, capped with a great evening of food and fellowship!
