After seeing the play of "Anne of Green Gables" yesterday, we were ready to go to Cavendish and see the place that inspired Lucy Maud Montgomery to write this very special story.
It was a cloudy, breezy and cooler day today, but beautiful, none-the-less

as we traveled the north central part of the island.
We had read about the Gardens of Hope and decided to take that in on our way. We discovered it was a retreat for those who are suffering from cancer....a place where they can come free of charge to refresh, renew and rebuild hope in their journey.
There was a quiet walk through the pine forest....
...with little vignettes , this one made from painted clay pots.
What a blessing to find these open hands, and the words of one of my favorite songs....
We stood there and sang it together.
There were raised bed vegetable gardens.......
And scattered lovely water lillys in water gardens....
We found a brightly painted yellow boat nestled among the grasses~
But crawling out of the boat was not such a simple task for the grandmas...😊
And then we came to the flower gardens!! Oh, the beautiful flowers!!
This is the first time I saw white cone flowers....
My favorite black-eyed susans gracing the fence row.....
Chairs for relaxing and reflecting....
A living wire tea pot in the rock garden....
And the biggest, whitest most beautiful hydrangeas ever....
As we walked along admiring and appreciating God's beautiful creation as displayed in these gardens, we came to the back side of a building.
There was a sign that said they served pies. Marie asked us to join her for pie, so we did! Although when we went inside, there was so much more than pie!

We first of all perused the gift shop.....all kinds of teas, jams, honeys, etc.....
AND these most beautiful mugs!
We were mentally, dreamily wondering if maybe we needed one more mug for our morning coffee, but then we checked the price....
......Fine English Bone China for a dreamy price of $45 a mug!
We left them on the shelf.
We were escorted to a corner seat, with lovely views of the gardens and river.
And it was not just pie, but we had stumbled upon an English tea!!
Spontaneous, impromptu surprises such as this one add so much enjoyment to a vacation day....
and this was no exception.
This is the way the tea was served.....
On the top is a sieve through which you pour the tea into the cup,
and a stainless steel holder for the sieve.
Under that is the cup, upside down, then the tea pot,
and on the bottom is the saucer in which to set the cup.
Margie and I both got a crisp to go with our tea....apple crisp and strawberry-rhubarb crisp.
Marie had a berry cheesecake and Barb enjoyed a piece of strawberry-rhubarb pie.
It was all so delicious!
These two "colorful" ladies just add to the bright envigorating decor....😉
We then walked back through more of the gardens to the Butterfly House.
What fun to have the butterflies sit on you.......
........and to have them eat from your hand!!
This is not the best speciman of a black-eyed susan (rudbeckia),
but the butterflies did not seem to mind!
We had had such a wonderful day so far, and we had not even arrived at our destination!
I always said that the journey is as enjoyable as the destination, and this is a good example of that.
After a short drive, we arrived at Cavendish, the "home" of Anne of Green Gables.
What can I say? I saw the dress-up clothes and couldn't resist becoming Marilla for a few moments.
I like to think this is how she looked at the end of the story....with a smile!
And that is Green Gables in the backround!
Anne was there too. I tried to look as stern as I could, to look more like Marilla.......
And now may I present......GREEN GABLES!

After we left Green Gables, we went to the Village of Avon Lea.
Basically, it was several streets with gift shops and eateries.....
We strolled and broused.....It was breezy and chilly.
This is the church where Lucy Maud Montgomery attended.
That was before it became the present day site of Boom Burger.
As we were heading to the place we had chosen for our dinner tonight, we came right back to where we had had our English Tea this fore-noon! Prince Edward Island Preserve Company!
After checking the menu, we decided to have dinner here instead.
We were seated at the same corner table where we were 6 hours earlier!
This is the quilt-decorated cathedral ceiling of the dining room.
Our delicious dinners....Preserve Company Potato Pie (layers of PEI potatoes, Island cheddar cheese and chives baked in a bacon crust, served with maple bacon cream)
....Seafood Chowder (A rich maritime tradition using local seafood, potatoes, leeks and cream. Served with a homemade bisbuit)
....Seafood Bubbly Bake (shrimp. scallops, haddock, salmon in garlic butter and cream sauce, topped with panko bread crumbs and parmesan cheese)
.
We topped off our fun, imaginative day with Anne, with Raspberry Cordials!
and, even though we look a little too happy,
no, we did not accidently get red current wine!😄
Ater we returned to our hotel, we decided that our dinner was early enough and light enough to have our ice cream treat tonight. So off to COWS we went!
I chose Gooey Mooey....and it was so very rich and scrumptious!
And yes, we are still happy! Because it was such a fun day!
